Epic is Gear-ing up for the game’s launch. The original Gears of War trilogy is finally finished. Series design director Cliff Bleszinski today posted an update to his Twitter account confirming that Gears of War 3 has gone gold in advance of its September 20 launch date. The news was accompanied by a picture of a cake to mark the occasion. The cake, designed to look like the Gears of War 3-branded Xbox 360 hardware, contained a congratulatory message in icing celebrating the game’s completion. Originally pegged to debut in April, Gears of War 3 begins with the last human city having been obliterated and series hero Marcus Fenix trying to protect the remaining humans from the Locust horde as well as from the newer, deadlier foe, the mutating Lambent. Gears of War 3 will be available in three versions this September: standard ($60), Limited ($80), and Epic ($150). The centerpiece of this year’s $150 Gears of War 3 Epic Edition will be a limited-run Marcus Fenix statue. For more on Gears of War 3, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage.

The 5th annual GameTaste Bash (www.3daybash.com) is expected to draw more than 300 gamers and fans to this years Tournament Gaming Party in North Carolina. In past years the Bash was a low key gaming party at the owners residence. This year the party has been moved to Lake Myers Resort in Mocksville, NC and has gone from a one night fling to a 3 day blast. To back GameTaste and National Championship Gaming, big time sponsors have signed up to insure its success. The sponsors include Best Buy, Hooters, Walmart, and Aarons Rentals. While the Bash will be set up with 8 big screens and 8 Xbox 360′s for the four gaming tournaments, the main draw could be all the other activities provided at no additional cost (entry is only $25 for all 3 days!..wtf). Included activities and contests are Mini Golf, paddle boats, bumper boats, fishing, swimming (3 pools), water sliding (2 400′ water slides), a cosplay costume contest, a chili eating contest, a dance (top 40 DJ), and plenty more. National Championship Gaming is reportedly giving away some big prizes and a boat load of trophies at the end of the event to boot. Rumors have also circulated that developers from Epic Games will also be there as well as several Hooters girls. That being said, we are getting a tent and will be there as well. Party on, dude. And dudets.

How many publications will name, or have named Gears of War 3 game of the show? Or Battlefield 3? Or Star Wars The Old Republic? Or whoever? We are giving the prize to two wallet friendly games that totally kick ass. For the PC: FireFall, a FPS that will be FREE to play. Yep…FREE. Download, play, kick ass, have fun, and maybe download some cool assessories for cash to help support the game. FireFall to us is Gears + Halo + Transformers = FireFall. It really looks great for a game that still has several months for developement and polish. Watch the Video below for complete details on what this game will do.

Our next Game of the Show is Section 8 Prejudice. Another FPS coming out on the console arcades for just $15. This game is easily worth $60, but the price point is perfect to get a huge install base. Clans will LOVE this game. It is made for gaming clans from scratch. It even has dedicated servers. We will post a video of Section 8 Prejudice soon.

Today was the last day of the 2nd annual PAX East, an it hurt me to walk away. As I was walking out, I turned around to say goodbye, as I would to a friend or family member. But there was no one to say goodbye to. But was there? Yes there was. PAX East itself has its very own spirit. It’s not one person, it’s a collective, so to say. PAX East is a monster of a collective to say the least, but a gentle giant monster that loves me…and you. What an experience. I haven’t been this tired and sore in many years, but the adrenaline generated from this PAX monster was more than enough to make me forget about all the fatigue and muscle pains. In fact, I want to visit the monster again tomorrow, but it will be hibernating until later this year where it will emerge on the west coast. And I have to go back to work editing all the great interviews we did with Adam Sesler, Major Nelson, and many many more. And that was what PAX East was all about for National Championship Gaming, bringing you the latest and greatest gaming information that is out there. And we worked our collective asses off, and it was worth every penny and ache. Stay tuned, plenty more to come.
